You might remember that cute little movie called Leap Year when a girl travels to Ireland to propose on Leap Day? Well, today is that very day and its perfectly okay to propose to your boyfriend. I did a post (which seems like a million years ago) when I first launch LDW raising the question Would You Propose To Your Boyfriend? The short answer is YES, but now we’re giving you ideas on how!
Before you pop the question make sure your values line up with his. Consider getting his thoughts on long-term committment to tap into his feelings about your relationship. Also try to find out if he’s comfortable with being proposed to because a small amount of men might not want you to take the lead. You also want to make sure you don’t propose to your boyfriend the way you would want to be proposed to. Is your most romantic idea of a marriage proposal a candlelight dinner with flowers and soft lighting? That sounds great…but that may not be the best way to propose to your boyfriend.
Tap into his hobbies!
You’ve already showed an interest in what your guy likes, whether it’s football or computer programming, is a great way of letting a guy know that he is loved and accepted for who he is. So, when it comes to getting creative with your proposal factor in some of his favorite hobbies, just as he would do if he was planning a proposal.
Show team spirit!
Combining your proposal with tickets to your guy’s favorite team helps him know that just because you are taking the lead here, doesn’t mean you’re planning on taking over his life.
Show off you kitchen skills!
As the saying goes, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” Cooking his favorite meal gives him a taste of what life with you will be like and will, hopefully, render a warm and fuzzy feeling that assures him he likes being with a girl like you!
Get the kids and pets to help with the proposal!
Involving your children and pets, is a great way to help remind your guy about what’s really important. They create a homey feeling that will get your guy thinking about life with you.
Take him on your first date
Romance isn’t just for girls. Let your man know you remember how it all started, and use those feelings of love and excitement to spark your new life together. It will bring you both back to an exciting time in your relationship and kick off your engagement right.
Keep it simple!
You’re already going to surprise him by being the one to propose marriage. So, don’t worry about getting too crazy with your plan. The bottom line is, you have to tell him how you feel. Put it on the line and see what happens.
Good luck and Happy Leap Day! 😉
