If you still haven’t decided on where to take your honeymoon maybe you should consider a road trip! There’s nothing better than hitting the open road and discovering the arts, foods, crafts, and vistas that make up different areas.
Road trips can be fun, but the last thing you want is to ruin your romantic adventure with road trip boredom, so prepare some on-road entertainment. Include games and music, or even a few audio books. TheKnot.com has a great article on Honeymoon Planning: Honeymoon Road Trip Tips. Here is some advice for your on-road entertainment!
- Car games They’re not just for kids! No road trip is complete without a round of “I spy” or “the license plate game.”
- Story time Instead of curling up in a corner and reading to yourself, share the story with your sweetie, and read aloud.
- Create an on-the-road scrapbook Take pictures of the funny sites you see from the car window. Then, create a scrapbook or photo album for your pics and fill your album as you drive along.
- Tunes for the trail If you’re addicted to your iPod, buy an FM transmitter to play your collection through your car radio. Griffin Technology’s iTrip Auto fits any iPod model, so no matter which highway or country lane you’re on you won’t be without your favorite tunes.
Once you have your entertainment figured out now its time to figure out the destination! We may love weddings from all over the world, but our heart still belongs to the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Here are some Ultimate Road Trips from National Geographic that are in our own backyard!
- Northeastern New Mexico. Take a step back and discover the authentic old west. A beautiful landscape where you’ll see prairies, volcanoes, pioneer homesteads, and villages straight out of a Western movie set. You’ll want to pull out your cowboy hat for this adventure!
- Banff and Jasper National Parks, Canada. You’ve seen the jaw-dropping weddings we’ve featured from Banff, now you’ll be able to visit this beautiful country on your own. On this road trip you be able to see elk, bears, and other wild creatures and have the opportunity to stop for guided hikes, tours of historic buildings, and attend a campfire chat.
- Northern Colorado and Southeastern Wyoming. Snowcapped peaks, scenic lakes, cowboys on horseback and a little bit of Boulder, Colorado makes this the perfect road trip. There is tons of hiking, biking, and camping in this area for the adventurous couple!
- San Luis Valley, Colorado. Extend your northern Colorado and southeastern Wyoming trip and make your way down to Southern Colorado. Old historic towns, Wildlife Refuge and Sand Dunes will make for one very memorable road trip.
- The Sawtooth’s, Idaho. A favorite playground of Ernest Hemingway you can hike, fish, paddle white water on the Salmon River, check out a ghost town, and watch for elk, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats. This area is spectacular!
