Alternative Wedding Transportation

With wedding season fast approaching it’s time to start thinking about how your guests will get to your wedding and get around if it’s a destination wedding. There are a number of factors included in wedding transportation planning and we’ve come up with some unique ideas that will make your wedding weekend memorable and a little GREEN friendly!

If you are hosting, or attending, a wedding that is less than a day away by car, you might want to consider traveling by train instead of flying. It can end up saving you time and money if you add in connecting flights, layover delays, and transportation costs to and from the airports.

Reserving hotel rooms for guests within walking distance of the venue or at the venue itself is a great way to decrease the pollution footprint of your wedding. If your wedding venue is located in a city with public transportation, why not have your wedding guests and party take public transportation. Taking public transportation is fun and economical and allows guests to drink freely without you fearing for their safety on the roads after the wedding is over.

A horse and carriage would be very romantic and with a horse replacing a fuel source, it is highly energy efficient and a way to arrive in style! Keep in mind the weather if you decide to hire pedicabs to transport guests. Similar to the horse and carriage, having a person bike your guests uses no fuel and is therefore energy efficient – not to mention a blast and the perfect photo opportunity!

If the wedding is in the fall, hayrides and tractor rides can supply space for many guests and heighten a fall experience. Or if the venue is close to water, consider gondola or ferry rides for guests to the reception. Ferry rides provide transportation for a large number of people and will be a very memorable experience.

Shuttle service is the easiest  and most popular way to lower your impact and still provide an easy alternative to driving for guests. If the wedding is located at a hotel, be sure to ask if they have a shuttle service available. Often times if they don’t, they can still assist you in enlisting the help of a bus/shuttle service. Be sure to check into eco-shuttle services as well because these services are becoming more popular across the nation.

Happy Planning!
