Deciding where to have your wedding is one of the biggest decisions you’ll need to make. Do you have it close to home, near your family or your intended’s family? Or do you pick someone altogether different that may or may not have any particular meaning or connection for either of you? Many couples choose to have a destination wedding, for a number of reasons. It might be that they want to get married somewhere unique and beautiful. Or it could be that they want to keep it small, and going far away helps to justify leaving a lot of people off the guest list. If you’re contemplating a destination wedding but you’re not yet convinced, here are some excellent reasons for getting married far away.
Choose Any Setting You Want
If you stay home to get married, you’re limited in your choices. Even if you’re willing to go a couple of hours away, you’re probably not going to be able to choose from hundreds of different landscapes and venue types. But with the whole world at your fingertips, you can have any backdrop to your wedding that you want. It could be a beach or island paradise, a verdant valley, a castle or even underwater. Providing you can legally marry in the country, there are no limits on the destination you choose.
Combine It with a Honeymoon and Family Vacation
A destination wedding can make it difficult for some guests to attend. But several of your close friends and family will still be able to make it, and they’ll get a vacation out of the deal. If you negotiate with hotels and even airlines, you might be able to make savings for your group of guests. And if you can help them out with costs, it will make their vacation cheaper. What’s more, you can get a headstart on your honeymoon. Choose the same destination for the wedding and honeymoon, and you can just stay longer once you’ve tied the knot.
Connect with a Location You Love
A lot of people have a vacation destination that they can’t help but return to again and again. Or they have somewhere they’ve always longed to visit, but they’ve never made it. One of the best things about getting married abroad is getting to know these places more intimately. By having your wedding in your chosen destination, you can immerse yourself in the culture. You can work with locals to make arrangements and reconnect with somewhere that means something to you.
Limit the Guest List
Although it may be a little uncouth to say it out loud, a destination wedding is an excellent excuse to keep the guest list short. If you want a small wedding but you have distant relatives and colleagues who will be wondering where their invite is, don’t get married close to home. You can stick to close family and friends, and perhaps have a party for anyone else once you get home.
Planning a destination wedding might be a little more complicated, but there are lots of bonuses that make it worth it. Don’t let the difficulties get in the way of your dream wedding.
