Sleep is essential every day of the week, but it is even more essential on your big day. Getting a good night’s rest ensures you feel good, look good, and are alert and rested for a full day of activities. Roughly three weeks prior to your wedding day it is important that you set up a sleep cycle, if you do not already have one. Start trying to go to bed and get up within the same two hour window each day (even on the weekends). This ensures your sleep hygiene is healthy.
There are several reasons why it is important that you get sleep before your wedding and the weeks leading up to the big day. Below are just a few of those reasons.
1. Looks
First, as you sleep you develop new collagen, which removes the wrinkles on your skin. You need more than 5 hours each night to help rid of fine lines. As you sleep you also increase the blood flow to your skin which gives you a nice healthy glow. The less sleep you get, the worse your complexion may be. Also, as most of us know, the less sleep we get the puffier and redder our eyes are. We also end up with dark circles around our eyes. Therefore, it is highly important that you get at least 7 hours of sleep the night before your wedding so that you wake up looking radiant.
2. Emotions
Sleep deprivation plays an important role in a person’s mood and mental stability. Without the proper amount of sleep most people become irritable and depressed. If the lack of sleep continues you may even become angry and stressed. This is definitely not a combination you want on your wedding day. You will be filled with stress, nerves and anticipation on the day of your wedding. You need to be able to control those emotions and having enough sleep will help you do that. Sleeping regenerates your body and mind overnight allowing you to wake up refreshed, ready to take on the day and whatever it may bring.
3. Fatigue
Obviously, lack of sleep will leave you fatigued throughout the day. You should feel energetic and awake when your alarm goes off. If you don’t, you certainly did not get the quality or quantity of sleep that you needed. The last thing that you want on your wedding day is to feel tired and sluggish. This is a day you need energy; therefore, as stated before make sure you have a schedule that you are sticking to weeks before the big day to ensure your internal clock is prepared to get you through the big event.
4. Body
The way your body feels throughout the day will impact your overall mood and this is especially important on the day of your wedding. You do not want to wake up stiff and sore from a crappy mattress or mattress topper. It is very important that you have a comfortable place to sleep. If your mattress or mattress topper is not comfortable, you will not be able to stay asleep at night. The Sleep Judge has some reviews about the best mattress toppers available on the market that may be of help. I have used this guide to help me decide what might be the best option for myself.
Each of these items are important to a bride on the day of her wedding and each of them require the right amount of sleep. Remember to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep the night before your wedding day. Your sleep hygiene leading up to the big day will help ensure you can sleep that night, even though you will be anxious with anticipation. Drink lots of water and try to stay as relaxed as possible as you get close to the big day. Congratulations and I hope this helps!
