When it comes to wedding safety, the only things we used to worry about was the risk of getting confetti in the eye and keeping a close eye on drunken relatives holding the cake knife! And now here we are in 2021 and the word ‘safety’ has taken on a whole different meaning!
Many people have had to cancel their weddings because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and while we can all understand the reasons why, the fact that it has had to happen is more than a little heartbreaking.
Here are some tips for you if you need to delay or cancel your wedding.
Still, if you are planning on getting married soon, and you have been given the go-ahead for your wedding to take place, we hope you have a great time. However, it pays to be safe, so with this in mind, here are a few suggestions on how to have a COVID-safe wedding.
#1: Whittle down your guest list
The wedding venues you hire will advise you of this already, of course, as they will have set rules in place to reduce the chances of the virus spreading. Let this be your incentive to narrow down your guest list then, perhaps by placing restrictions on +1’s and limiting your guest list to the people you are closest to. Sure, your mom might be upset that your distant cousins won’t be able to come to the wedding, and your gran might be concerned that she can’t invite her Bridge club, but you can use the need to stay safe as a valid excuse.
#2: Consider an outside venue
The risk of infection is higher indoors because of poor ventilation and overcrowding, so outside is always best during this most chaotic of times. People will have more space to move around outside and you might have more options where seating is concerned. If you are considering an indoor venue instead, be sure to ask the staff about the protocols in place to keep people safe.
#3: Give people a list of rules
These can include:
- Keep at a distance at all times, even when dancing
- Use the provided hand-sanitizers
- Wear a face mask
- Don’t come to the wedding if you are feeling unwell
You will need to add hand sanitizers and face masks to the other items you need to buy for your wedding. In the case of the latter, you can purchase them when buying your other party paraphernalia from Just Artifacts.
#4: Forego the buffet
You don’t want people touching shared plates of food and putting people at risk, so don’t include a buffet. Instead, prepare individual plates for each person and put their name on them. You should tag glasses too or give people disposable cups that can be thrown away.
#5: Limit the alcohol
We know people like to drink and get merry at weddings, but too much alcohol is asking for trouble. People might lose all common sense after having one too many and they might make some poor (and unsafe) decisions. Therefore, limit the amount of alcohol that is served, and perhaps include lots of fun alcohol-free options as replacements.
So, here’s the thing. If you are getting married, you will need to make a few changes. You will know this already of course, but we hope our reminders have been useful to you. Look for other ideas online and do whatever else you can to ensure a safer wedding.
