I’m back, finally! After catching up on some certifications (more on that later) last week I’m ready to get back into the swing of things with a beautiful real wedding from March Seven Photography in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada.
I wanted my bouquet to symbolize our families coming together, so I asked my mom, Roger’s mom and my 2 step-daughters to tell me what their favorite flowers were. I had each of these flowers along with my favorite included in my bouquet. It meant a lot to me to have a piece of each of these amazing women with me on that trip up the aisle.
Describe the proposal.
Roger’s proposal came as a complete surprise, as it was at the moment I was least expecting it. We were hosting a big birthday party for Roger that night at our house in Whistler, so we were running around getting last minute things and I was beginning to get stressed that some of the details were not coming together. Roger suggested we go for a walk to relax, and reluctantly I agreed.
He took me to Lost Lake and we walked around the lake until we arrived at this beautiful look out point. Roger pretended he saw something sparkling in the snow, and bent down to get a closer look. He came up on one knee with a diamond ring and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I cried, of course and was so happy and blown away that I almost forgot to say yes!! He had to ask me twice to get an answer.
I am fairly low maintenance, so finding my dress was done in typical “Jenny fashion”. I walked into one dress store and picked out 2 dresses on my lunch break from work. As soon as I put on the second dress I knew it was the dress I would get married in.
Our favorite detail was the guest list. We were surrounded by our family and friends and they made the day so special for us. We wanted to have an overall feeling of love and togetherness on our day, and the people we surrounded ourselves with provided more love than we could have imagined.
We included a ceremony for our new consolidated family. I placed a necklace around each of my step-daughters necks and recited vows to each of them. I wanted them to know that they are an integral part of our new family and that I love them now and forever.
Our design inspiration for the invitations came from Kyla Getty of Gett Creative. She created a design for us based on many small personal things about us. She took a lot of information and then brought it all together to create our own brand. The brand was used on the invitations as well as throughout the wedding. It’s a traditional, elegant logo and we were thrilled.
Our favorite design element was the way the tree came together for our ceremony. We were married under this huge cedar tree in our backyard which had gold and white frames hung on it with photos of us as a couple. We had a crystal chandelier hung from the tree as well to create a “room” type of feeling outdoors. It was so beautiful and exactly what we wanted.
Our colors for the wedding were white, champagne and deep red. We wanted to have flowers that were simple and elegant. We went with a mix of white roses, orchids and lilies that were arranged in both really tall glasses vases and small bowl vases.
I loved the wedding cake! It was so simple and elegant and exactly what we wanted. Our cake was all white with white ribbon trim on each layer. Orchids were added to each layer for a feminine touch. The cake was white chocolate with a raspberry layer in the center.
There are so many moments of our wedding day that we will remember forever. The speeches were powerful and emotional and we will never forget them. The ceremony was beautiful and full of love which was exactly what we wanted, but the moment that I loved the most was sitting in the limo together right before we went in to the reception and realizing that we were married, and that this was the partner that I had spent my whole life dreaming about. It was such a beautiful and blissful moment.
