Arnie was born and raised in Port Lions, Alaska (a village on Kodiak Island that is only accessible by boat or plane). He has been a commercial fisherman out of Port Lions since he was a teenager. I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Our paths crossed when his parents had him go to high school in Anchorage his senior year. The November before we had met I went to Vegas, threw a quarter in the Bellagio Fountains and wished that I would meet someone within the next couple of months that I would spend the rest of my life with.
They met in gym class. One day Justine said “I’m the only senior in this class!”, then all of a sudden Arnie chimed in “I’m a senior too!” after that moment Justine was smitten. They spent the rest of the first semester hanging out in gym class and getting to know each other, but never made plans outside of class. When the semester ended they exchanged numbers, but didn’t see each other after that. Justine finally got up the courage to call Arnie and ask him to hang out and they did. On Valentine’s Day 2004 they had their first date, saw 50 First Dates and had a dessert of Dipps. 10 Valentine’s Days later, they tied the knot.
