Summer weddings are a great time to introduce friends and family to fun daytime cocktail. You want your guests to cool down while celebrating your wedding, but you don’t want them drunk during the ceremony. Having signature wedding cocktails is the perfect addition to any wedding day and if your looking for a great daytime cocktail that can be severed with alcohol or non-alcoholic (for all those kiddos) then this Blueberry Limeade is the perfect drink!
This recipe was featured on People.com this week in a fun little slideshow for daytime cocktails. You can view the whole list here, but one caught our eye because of the color and the non-alcoholic option. Thanks so much to food blogger Jessica DaSilva of Portuguese Girl Cooks for sharing this with People because we think its going to be a big hit this summer and we personally can’t wait to try it!
Blueberry Limeade
Makes 6-10 servings
Ingredients
- 1 pint blueberries, divided
- 1¼ cups sugar
- 1¼ cups water
- 8-10 large limes, juiced (plus additional for garnish)
- Vodka or tequila (optional), about 1-2 oz. per serving (substitute with sparkling water or club soda for non-alcoholic drink)
Directions
- Reserve about ½ cup blueberries, and place the remaining blueberries in a medium saucepan. Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the blueberries.
- Add in the sugar and water, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once mixture is boiling, reduce to a simmer until the mixture becomes a deep purple color, 5-10 minutes. Strain mixture into a container with a lid and refrigerate until cold.
- Before serving, juice the limes and, in a pitcher, mix with the blueberry simple syrup. Add liquor (or sparkling water or club soda), reserved blueberries and sliced limes. Mix well and serve over ice.
Enjoy!
